I just wanted to take the time to write about a man who has had a great influence upon my life as well as my spiritual life. When I was growing up in church there was always an elderly man who I looked up to. He would always greet me and say “Hi how are you doing? How was your week been?” he was always kind to me, and he soon became an extension of my family members. He taught me how to light the candles on the altar, he showed me where new candles were, and he later had me help him with communion. He was an amazing man of God and would always ask great questions that you would have to think about before you could respond. I asked him to be my confirmation mentor, and he happily agreed.
Whenever he needed anything done around the house he would call me up, and ask me if I would do it for him, of course I always did. I remember how he would always come to pick me up, to go over to his house, and he would turn on the radio to a country music station, and turn the volume down low and we would just talk about school and life, and what was going on in my life. As I left that church, I was sadden because I wouldn’t see him again, and I didn’t know how long it would be until I did. Looking back I regret not hanging out with him more, and making time to go over and just talk to him.
Lincoln was a great man and I will miss him for the rest of my life, and I just pray that he is able to realize how much he truly means to me. I also pray that he would just be comforted by God as he is with him now. And I just ask God to help everyone who has been affected by his passing, just help them get comforted.
